For an 1830s farmer or sugar refiner, a battlefield could have been what a coal seam is to a miner, a mushroom patch to a forager, or a wild apple tree to a walker. Men from across Europe came here to die by the tens of thousands. Reduced to bone char, they entered a growing food industry. The first European Union was perhaps an apple pie.

Superdeals is a bare-bones, short-term artist-run residency in Saint-Gilles, Brussels. Since 2014, it has offered artists a one-month stay with accommodation and space for work and presentation, without programmed support or expectations, but with a loose structure and full autonomy.
